POLSPOTTEN: Famous interior eccentric returns to downtown Amsterdam

S-P-A-C-E designs new brand store, design studio and in-house museum, now open at Westerstraat 187

Not far from where it all began over three decades ago, iconic design label POLSPOTTEN opens its doors at 187 Westerstraat. The new location has a strikingly colourful interior and accommodates a brand store, museum, showroom and office. A true creative melting pot in the heart of Amsterdam's Jordaan district, where craft and design come together.

Design lovers will be in for a treat at the brand new POLSPOTTEN in Amsterdam. Whether you are looking for an eye-catching object for at home, need help decorating, or perhaps you are merely curious about iconic Dutch classics. The shop consists of several spaces where the distinctive collections can be admired. Over a good cup of coffee, this place offers everything under one roof: from art and design by young creatives and a repair service for your broken favourite design, to help with furnishing by means of a 3D visualisation.

Alongside bold new creations, you will also find many timeless classics by Dutch design legends such as Roderick Vos, Norman Trapman, Wieki Somers and Hans van Bentum: from the ever-popular Zig Zag Stool, the famous Coral Vase and the contemporary Puyi Vase, to the eye-catching Drip Candle Holder and the minimalist Buffer Lamp. And, as icing on the cake, there is an in-house museum, where an endless collection of POLSPOTTEN icons – including those no longer for sale – can be admired.

Ever since it was founded in the late 1980s by Erik Pol, POLSPOTTEN has had a distinct, cutting-edge and colourful take on interior design. With great passion, POLSPOTTEN has since been committed to craftsmanship, art and the alchemy of connecting people and spaces. So, the fact that the location on Westerstraat is a former vocational school is no coincidence. The new interior design reflects these important core values. With the help of architect Pepijn Smit of S-P-A-C-E Projects, the shop and workspaces flow together and the interior has become a lush mix of (sustainable) elements and eclectic styles.

Victor van Nieuwenhuizen, CEO of POLSPOTTEN is proud of the opening: “From conversations with our founder, we know that the first shop instantly became a place where people with a great passion for art, design and culture came together. Not only did they buy our products, they relished the spirit of our brand there and interacted with each other. That feeling is still deeply woven into our DNA. We look to the future while celebrating the past. This is reflected in our collections, but now also in the design of the shop. It is a place where craft and design flow together and where past and present reinforce one another.”

About POLSPOTTEN

What began in 1986 with Erik Pol importing Spanish terracotta pots to Amsterdam’s Herenstraat has evolved into a sought-after brand for furniture and accessories. From its early days, POLSPOTTEN has reflected the expressive and non-conformist character of the Dutch capital. For its rebellious and colourful designs, the label has long collaborated with innovative Dutch designers and skilled international craftspeople from around the world. The company does not mass-produce products, and each unique item is designed to last a lifetime.

Over time, POLSPOTTEN has become a leading international brand with an unmistakable signature. Its products can be found in hotels such as Rosewood and CitizenM, and are sold in 65 countries at renowned concept stores like Merci and The Conran Shop, on platforms like Mytheresa, Farfetch and LouisaViaRoma, and at department stores such as De Bijenkorf, Browns, Selfridges and Lane Crawford. They are also available directly to design enthusiasts through www.polspotten.com and now at the new Amsterdam brand space, with deliveries serviced by Cake electric scooters.
